DIY Off the Shoulder Dress | McCall M7719 Pattern Review (Royal Wedding Sew Along Entry)
It feels so good to finally post another make!
This pattern was a recent buy that I mentioned in my 2018 Spring Pattern Picks post a few weeks ago. When I purchased it, I knew that it’d be the perfect make for a birthday celebration that I’d be attending. Indeed it was!
The fabric used was purchased from Joann. You can find it here. I absolutely love it and will be using it as a focal piece for my collection that I plan to curate. I share more details about the make in my video below. My written review and pictures are also below!

McCall M7719 Pattern Review
Pattern Description: This is a mix and match pattern. I chose the number 3, off the shoulder bodice and number 5, straight skirt.
Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 14 bodice and graded up to a size 18 at the hip.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes! I even was able to find the exact fabric used on the pattern package, but did not have enough to use for this pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Somewhat. I would not recommend the pattern for a beginner. Some working knowledge is needed to follow along. It is a very involved pattern, so I did find myself constantly referring back to the instructions. It was not an easy, self explanatory pattern.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There is a lot of hand sewing involved. This made the project a lot longer than expected.
Fabric Used: Satin floral fabric from Joann. It can be found here.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I just graded up the skirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? At a later date. I can’t imagine sewing this involved of a pattern again so soon. Again, I’d recommend this to someone with intermediate to advanced sewing skills.
Conclusion
Loved the finished product, but it was a task to complete. If you have the time and patience to bring this garment to life, go for it! You won’t be disappointed.
