Many of you all requested that I do a video review of the McCall M7574 that I posted about in July. That video link can be found at the bottom of this post. The original blog post review was a guest feature on another blog, so if you missed it I’ve included it below.

So, first things first, I bought this pattern during one of McCall’s pattern sales. I did a huge pattern haul on my YouTube channel here. I bought this pattern for the sole purpose of making the dress. I’m all about comfort, and this dress screamed “relaxed.” In fact, the model wore her dress exactly the way I would– with some comfortable sneakers.

Having purchased the pattern before I had the fabric put me on a bit of an exploration. What to buy? Of late, I’ve been impressed by some blogger makes using LA Finch Fabrics, so I decided to give them a try. After visiting the summer clearance section, I fell in love with their mauve Liverpool knit fabric. It is a very soft, stretch fabric that is great for light, flowy garments. I thought it would be great for this dress, and for the most part, I was right.

This dress was a very simple make. It only took a few hours to construct, with just five pattern pieces to cut out. It boasts a raglan sleeve and lots of fun edge stitching. It also has a small split on either side and pockets that make it the perfect choice for running errands.

After reviewing the final garment dimensions, I cut out a size 18 and graded up to a 20 at the hip. I’m typically a 14/16, so having to go up by two sizes was quite surprising. Nonetheless, I went with it and it worked out fine. So, if you’re thinking about making this garment, be sure to check out the finished garment dimensions before cutting. The pattern does come with some great fitting adjustment instructions as well.

Though this dress is great for summer, the neutral mauve color screams fall to me. I can’t wait to pair it up with a brown faux fur vest and some booties when it cools down!

Though I love the fabric, I would suggest going with the recommended types on the pattern envelope. The Liverpool does not render a crisp finish at the seams that I think are necessary to pull this off well. Additionally, it got a bit bulky at pocket. It’s a fabric that tends to cling, so I highly recommend wearing smoothing undergarments.

Overall, I am satisfied with the finished garment. It is extremely comfortable and I’ve already worn it out for errands.
